UA Study: ‘AZ EMTs face 39 percent greater risk of suicide’

PHOENIX – A new study reveals that Arizona emergency medical technicians’ a 39 percent greater risk of suicide than the general public.

Researchers from the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix conducted the recent study and say t

hat after seeing “surprising results,” they want to find immediate and effective solutions.

They partnered with the Arizona Department of Health Services, (AZDHS) to develop an EMS resiliency website. This website provides information and resource to “help build resiliency and reduce EMS suicide.”

UA College of Medicine-Phoenix researchers are also working closely with the Golder Ranch Fire District. Their focus is to measure the effectiveness of resiliency training.
